The first steps of setting up the design for the corrugated plastic and the girls dancing behind it.
Photos from shoot day 2:
The only part of the shoot I wish had gone
better was the pole dancing in the dancing scene where the characters looked
much less natural and looked more like they were performing to the camera rather
than just in a club scene. We managed our talent well as we constantly had one
of the group in a directory role constantly directing and telling the cast what
to do how to act even throughout the shots were going on. The bit of the shoot I
enjoyed the most was the plastic panels scene because there were parts of this
that I filmed which I thought I filmed really well and it was also the most
successful part in my opinion, especially in representation of the overall
themes. The part I’m looking forward to most in the editing is the watchers
scene with the rising floor as we filmed plenty of different shot types and
angles for this scene and it’ll be interesting working out which shots to cut
into and how create an interesting sequence that relates to voyeurism.
Photos from the day of the shoot 1:
We had one major issue in that our male cast
for the dancing scenes didn’t turn up and we had to work around this by
reworking the concept of no sexual identity, meaning that in this club there was
no sexuality everyone did what they wanted. We had to rework this as it was
pretty unclear without any male cast to play the parts, so we ended up just
turning it into a female fetish bondage club with a minor freedom of sexuality
theme. I think the scene with the plastic panels set was the best because the
lighting and actors looked really genuine and it represented the most meaning
throughout our video. The panels were almost like windows into a fantasy world
where there were no rules or labels and no societal condemnations on what people
did, this part for me was the most representational of our traditional idea of
the ‘Grey Room’ taken from Fifty Shades
of Grey’s ‘Red Room’.
Painting the walls black to give it that underground dark nightclub feel.
Our production group worked
efficiently as a team, each swapping roles so everyone put equal effort into
each aspect of the music video but also in learning off each other’s performance
in each role and helping each other to perform each role to the best level. A
lesson that I learnt during the shoot was to, in future, plan ahead for possible
unreliability. In the case of our whole male cast dropping out, if we had
planned for the unexpected we could’ve cast an understudy to step into their
place and perform the roles we needed.
The only adjustments we may need
to make to our website and album artwork designs are to take the focus of them
off a male homosexual audience because of the issue of our male cast dropping
out, however we still managed to create a similar looking club scene using women
instead of a mix of both genders.

Further Post - Production work that is required:
We are working on our CD Digital Packs and the Website for our Music Video. We have an idea of what design we want on the Album cover. We want to incorporate Man Ray photos with suggestive sexual references from our Video. We also want to have sunglasses on the front with the reflection of a Man Ray photo reflecting on the glass lens. We are making the website to attract our Target Audience, with bright colours, suggestive sexual references and using synergy with Facebook and Twitter, to maximise our viral market.
How the Project is Developing and Changing:
In the original plans it was meant to be boys and girls, so
lesbians and gays. However due to all the men who were casted hadn't turned up,
it turned into a lesbian club. Having said that, it seemed to have worked
better for us and our intention of sexual suggestion. Apart from that we have stuck with our
original plans, as we were all well prepared.
Issues in the Editing Process:
We found explicity a problem. Due to the sexual references
of the girls, we had to edit it in a way that no offense would be caused to
anyone. We did this by editing during blurs, flashes in the camera from the
lighting and using the corrugated plastic. We also found it quite hard to
explain to the audience the roles of the
two Man Ray boys and Nico. We overcame this by bringing a structure to the
video, with more fluidity of the making it more obvious that Nico was in charge
and that the boys were clients at this club.
Strengths and Weaknesses of the Product so far:
The Strengths and Weaknesses:
Continuity of the editing.
Editing on the beat of the music.
Smooth cuts.
In and out of focus shots; where they have been edited.
The pace of the editing in time with the beat of the song.
The pace of the editing in time with the beat of the song.
Weaknesses:
More structure needed.
More sexual suggestion.
Cut down from 3 minutes to 2:40 minutes.
Commentary of our Rough Cut:
We have tried to keep the music video as suggestive as
possible, with small glimpses of explicity. We find that this way we can fulfil
the audiences expectations in small doses, which was more effective to the
intention of suggestion. We have tried to build a structure in editing to show
the two Man ray boys on the sofa are looking at the girls on the dance floor and
behind the corrugated plastic. We also are creating the image of Nico ; the
head girl of the club, who always keeps an eye on the other dancers to make
sure their doing their jobs correctly. However, always in a subtle way, to again show
the suggestion of sexual references.

Evaluation of our rough cut:
Today we completed our rough cut and now have downloaded it onto a hard drive and will be uploading it shortly onto our blogs. The purpose of the rough cut is to give a basic structure to the video, so that the audience can get an idea of what it looks like. We still need to add more structure and less explicity to it, which we will do for our Final Cut. We are pleased so far, as we have cut shots on the beat of the music, we have kept it fluid with the lighting, shining into the camera lense and editing it so that it opened up with another shot of light on the camera lense.

Write up of shoot day 5:
During editing I look forward to seeing how the nightclub scene turned out, as on screen it looked incredible, with the dancers, lighting and the DJ dancing in the background. I feel our production group worked very well together, we were all very organised, attentive and new exactly what we were doing and how we had to do it. I learned from this shoot, that we all should have made 100% sure that all our cast were ready and free on the day of the shoot. We will only have to make a very few changes to our website, as the concept is still the same except there are no more gays involved only lesbians.
Write up of shoot day 4:
I thought we had managed our actors well, as they were all very attentive and did exactly what we wanted; this really helped the shoot go well, as they all listened and acted professionally. I especially enjoyed the scene where our main lesbian woman who was in charge of the nightclub eyed up all her dancers to make sure they were doing their jobs well, I felt that this summed up the type of tone we were aiming for in our Music Video.
Write up of shoot day 3:
Our only problem was that none of the boys we had casted had turned up. So we had to change our concept of homosexual men being involved and just have the sexual suggestion of lesbians. In the end we thought that it looked better without boys as we liked the idea of aiming at smaller target audience, which gave our music video uniqueness. I thought the most successful part of the shoot was the nightclub scene. As you could feel the whole tone and mood was positive, with the DJ, the pole dancers and the lesbians on the dance floor. We had great footage of them, with close ups and tracking shots, really giving it the sense of a twisted lesbian nightclub.
Write up of shoot day 2:
We had dark lighting in front of the plastic screens and behind them were multi coloured rays of light reflecting it on the plastic giving it a blurry look, which was perfect for the shoot as it looked more subtle and suggestive. We felt that we had created the look of our concept very well and were all pleased with the outcome for that scene. We divided our roles by directing, filming, lighting and pressing playback. We decided to rotate the roles every thirty minutes so that we kept full focus and didn’t get bored of doing the same thing over and over. I personally feel I was strongest in directing, as I felt that I could communicate well with the actors, and make them feel confident in these sexualized scenes. I also had a few ideas that I wanted to explore with the actors and the camera which turned out to be very useful in bringing our intention of sexual suggestion.
Editing
We have started editing and are now a week into finishing our rough cut. We will be uploading the rough cut next week. We need to develop more structure to the video.

Write up of Shoot Day 1:
Music Promo – Write up of Shoot Day:
The day before the shoot we had to set up all the mise en scene, such as the costumes, the set design and the lighting. We did this so that we were prepared on the shoot day and had all our props equipment on the ready whenever we needed it; we felt we were well organised. I felt confident in the morning as I knew everything was ready and prepared for the shoot. We all felt that everything would go smoothly and as planned. When we arrived in the studio we ran a checklist of all the cast, all the girls had turned up which was the most important piece for our shoot, but there were no boys. The studio looked ready for the girls to do their suggestion of sexuality behind the strip pieces of plastic. Between each plastic strip piece was a black wall, where we had one girl on every wall dressed up in kinky leather outfits giving it that sexual underground feel of a club.
