For example, right at the beginning of the process of us creating our music video, we had top establish a song that we would use for our music video This meant that during the time we were listening to the song we had to imagine ideas of how we could use the song to represent something important to us, for us it was sexuality. From getting a song that we thought could work for us, we then had to think how we could show representation of sexuality, and we were thinking of how modern day society still does not accept homosexuality.
This lead us onto having two boys who were homosexual, and were not accepted by their parents nor their friends at school, we would show this by creating flashbacks of them arguing with their parents or being physically abused at school by other pupils. This had to be creatively thought up as we wanted it to be as original as possible, also so that we didn’t bore our audience as we wanted them to be glued to the screen while watching our music video, so that they leave the room having a different view on homosexuality.
A quote of creativity "A process needed for problem solving...not a special gift enjoyed by a few but a common ability possessed by most people" (Jones 1993). We had to come up with lighting ideas, the locations of the shoot, who we thought would be suitable to cast as the two boys and what type of shots we were going to use to represent different points. This took a lot of creative imagination as we felt like a Music production company.
Part of this creative process in the media course, is the story board to the music video, as we had to draw on paper the images of how we wanted each shot to be, and this needs a lot of creativity as we had to think of the mise en scene, what shot was needed and what the characters would be doing in each shot. We also had to create a timeline for the music video; this meant we had to do a detailed description of what type of shot we had and where the characters would be in every second of the video.
Throughout the course we also had to deconstruct album covers, which took a lot of imagination and creativity as most of the images and colours in the album covers were more metaphorical than literal and meant we had to use creativity to understand what the image meant and what it was trying to say. “A picture is worth a thousand words” Arthur Brisbane.
Creativity is a style and is unique to every individual, it can only be imagined and thought to try and be out of the oridnary. This is what we are trying to implement into our Music Video.
